in code

For our inaugural collaborative project, in code (2014), we were invited to execute this project as a live happening print project at the College Book Arts Association national conference at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, and at the Southern Graphics Council national conference in San Francisco.

Using social media, letterpress, and text from conference participants, we created a project working with condensed communication via Twitter. For 48 hours, conference attendees tweeted and we repurposed the text on Twitter with a trending hashtag and limited characters.

This idea was inspired by our combined interest in the limitations of communication in a physical sense in both the digital and the analog worlds. For example, in letterpress, the physical letters that fit within the job case or on the press are similar to the 140 characters that compose a tweet in the digital world.
